I prefer to avoid bugs & spiders and things of that sort

But sometimes, I walk right into them, like this wheelbug. Because I stopped to look at him, though,I saw this guy before I hit his web.



Had I hit the web, there probably would've have been screaming (me) and some wild flailing of arms and legs (me again). I believe the scientific name for this is HOLY CRAP! THAT IS A BIG ASS SPIDER.  I am not sure of the genus, though.

I'm sure there was a snake behind me, watching it all.

(honestly, I think this is just a garden spider, which in no way diminishes its eeeeek! factor.)
