It happened.
I caved to age. I was fitted for contact lenses. And not just regular old contacts...no. Multi-focal contact lenses. I'm trying a prescription for a week to see (ha! get it?) how my eyes (and me) handle it. My distance vision is good, but arm's length and closer requires magnification. Reading glasses are a pain because they're on, they're off, they're off, etc (I do use them to hold my hair back, so they do some good other than the vision thing, I guess). So the thought behind the contacts was they'd be convenient. I would always be able to see.
It. Is. Weird. Yes, I can now read a text message without glasses, and I went to the grocery store and was able to stand and look at the products and actually read labels. But things don't look the same and sometimes the print on things seems almost 3D. I don't want to call it a distortion, but sometimes it felt like what that photo looks like - focus not quite locked in but not horribly off. And by wearing them, I am compromising my distance vision a little. I'm not sure I like that.
I've a few more days on the trial and then I go back to the doctor and maybe tweak the prescription or just decide do nothing now except get stronger readers, and wait for the distance to go and eventually get bifocals.
I've lasted a half century without needing constant vision aid, so I guess I've been lucky. And thank goodness for auto-focus! :)
Ahh, the joys of ageing, I mean, life. :)
