1500 miles

One of my greatest thrills when by the river is spotting (and photographing) the birds. Great blue herons, egrets, green herons, osprey, eagles, etc...all super-exciting. The problem is, they are all pretty shy and usually fly away before I can get close enough for a good shot.

When we got off the ship in Jamaica, we spotted the green heron above. Our guide said they winter there. Apparently they are much more relaxed in the winter, mon.

Later in our walk, we spotted an egret. Again, more relaxed, although it did fly away as we approached.

I had to travel 1500 miles (about) to get these shots of birds that I can see here in the summer. Totally worth it!
